Top foods to eat to feel beautiful from the inside out

It’s true that real beauty comes from within – in more ways than one!

The fresh and youthful beauty that many try to obtain with the help of expensive products can actually be achieved by simply eating right. Choosing foods that are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants is not only good for your insides but it’s good for your skin too.

Read on to find out which foods you can eat to become beautiful from the inside out.

Olive oil

Olive oil, particularly extra virgin olive oil, is a rich source of antioxidants that can help halt the ageing process. It’s also loaded with vitamin E. The best thing about olive oil, though, is that it increases the production of leptin, which is the hormone that tells you that you’re full and helps keep you trim.

Some evidence suggests that olive oil can do other miraculous things like fight cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, although there is limited industry-approved evidence of these claims. But before you look at olive oil as the answer to all skin and health problems, remember that it is still a fat and eating too much of it could cause cardiovascular issues. Also, the antioxidant content is significantly reduced if you heat it too high.

Celery

Many vegetables have a similar nutritional profile, so why does celery make the list? Well, it’s extremely low in calories. There’s only around 15 calories in every 100g, which puts celery in the “negative calorie” food group, meaning that your body actually burns more calories eating and digesting it than the celery is worth.

Celery’s high water content and low caloric value means you can eat a whole bunch without blowing past your calorie limit. And you’re giving yourself a big dose of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

Green tea

Green tea is another rich source of antioxidants, in particular flavonoids, which can help to keep your skin young and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. Green tea also boosts your metabolic rate and helps you burn fat, which is great news for anyone who’s trying to lose weight. It also helps flush toxins from your system, keeping you healthy and your skin bright.

Just remember that green tea can contain caffeine, so opt for a brand with a low level of caffeine if you’re a tea lover.

Berries

Berries have high concentrations of vitamin C and antioxidants, both of which can help to keep your skin bright and youthful. Berries also contain polyphenols, which can help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and are rich in fibre, which helps you digest and get rid of toxins.

Just know that berries are often high in sugar too, so you should eat them in moderation.

Lemon water

There are many causes of spotty and dull skin and one of the most common is too many toxins in the body. If you’ve been eating processed food, drinking a little too much alcohol and smoking, you might see these toxins take a toll on your skin. Drinking warm lemon water is one of the easiest ways to flush excess toxins from your system, which is why lemon is a key ingredient in many detox diets. One glass of warm lemon water a day can help assist your digestive system and keep your skin clear.
