Many people cannot imagine their winter holidays without hitting the slopes. Days filled with fun in the snow and evenings spent in a cosy cabin with a mug of hot chocolate. However, not many realise that our holiday choices also have an impact on the environment. If one wants to be truly eco-friendly, one must make wise choices even on holidays. Fortunately, there are more and more sustainable properties to choose from, which also happen to be extremely beautiful and charming.

Before we get to the list of all the lovely winter getaways, there are two things you should take into consideration:

  1. When planning your trip, start by choosing more sustainable form of transport. Choose train or bus whenever possible.
  2. Try to be eco-conscious throughout your whole stay. Recycle all your waste before checking out, switch off all appliances when leaving the room and take quick showers.

Now, onto our list.

  1. Whitepod in Valais, Switzerland.

Who would have thought that such funny looking pods hide such cosy and stylish interiors. Located just over an hour’s drive from Geneva, Whitepod is a place for both those who are eco-conscious, as well as those who are willing to spend some quiet time away from popular Swiss ski-resorts. This resort consists of 15 snowball-shaped domes that can be dismantled at any time thanks to their unique design. Whitepod uses only local spring water, wood from surrounding forests, and offers only local wine and food. Additionally, all the provided cleaning products are 100% biodegradable.

At the first sight you think that this resort is just some small igloo until you go inside and are stunned. The inside of this igloo-hotel is like nothing you’ve seen before. It’s filled with wall sculptures made in snow and ice by international artists. There are different types of rooms to choose from, all equipped with warm sleeping bags. The whole complex is very sustainable as it’s made entirely out of snow and ice, thus being rebuilt each winter.

If you’re willing to spend just a winter weekend away, then this place is for you. Located just few hours‘ train ride from London, this glass hotel sits atop a cliff in picturesque north Cornwall. During the winter season you can enjoy your time at the indoor pool, eating delicious meals made with local and organic ingredients. The hotel itself has a sustainability policy, which aims to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill each year. It also created Guest Gifting Scheme, which enables guests to give back to charities, like Surfers Against Sewage supporting cleanliness of seas and beaches.

No matter which place you decide to go to, just rememeber to have fun and that even small steps matter when it comes to protecting our wonderful world.

Bio: Hi, I’m Yvonne. I am a green beauty and lifestyle blogger at Organic Beauty Crave. As the name of my blog suggests, I write about organic beauty and everything related to it, as well as about all the new things I learn about almost every single day. I often discover new products or product lines that I fall in love with instantly, and I would like to share my thoughts about them with my readers as I know that many times when it comes to organic beauty products there aren’t many honest reviews available.Apart from that I’m an animal lover and tea addict.
