What is Organic September?
Launched in 2012, ‘Organic September’ is Soil Association’s Campaign For Clarity. The aim is to raise awareness on green washing that is gaining momentum in the beauty industry. The Soil Association have teamed up with Good Energy (sponsors of Organic September) and have been working really hard to reach out to consumers and encourage them to think about the choices they make. It’s all about getting consumers to understand the importance of choosing organic and going out and buying organic products. It’s the small changes that make the big difference.
So what are these small changes?
It’s as simple as switching to organic milk, bread, vegetable, fruits, meat and poultry or even your beauty and skincare product like your everyday cleanser or moisturiser.
What’s the difference?
Choosing to eat, drink or use organic products makes a huge difference to our planet. You’re not only helping protect the environment, but you’ll also be supporting our local farmers. And did you know that by supporting our local farmers you’re also protecting our animals and wildlife? How? This is mainly because organic farming has higher animal welfare standards, and is free range too.
Choosing Organic also means no manufactured herbicides, lower level of pesticides, no artificial fertilisers. This in turn, leads to the management of a more environmentally sustainable land and protection of the natural environment.
This year, the Soil Association’s campaign for Organic Beauty Week is “lookforthelogo” aimed at tackling the issue of green washing. They also have a dedicated Soil Association Beauty page on Instagram @soilassociationbeauty
We had the pleasure of attending the Organic Beauty Press Event last month, where we got to meet some amazing brands with amazing stories. Their hard work and dedication, to ensure we get the best quality organic skincare, is impressive! At the press launch, the Soil Association announced this year’s Organic Beauty Week ambassador – Niomi Smart (Blogger, Youtuber and healthy living enthusiast).
Organic Beauty Week will run from 19th – 25th September 2016 with numerous exciting activities and events taking place all over the country during this week.
In the run up to Organic Beauty Week, the Soil Association will be launching the YOUBeauty Box in collaboration with YOU magazine on 4th September 2016. This subscription beauty box will be filled with Soil Association approved beauty and skincare products, ensuring you get quality, organic products for you and your family.
